Although Sir Harold Gillies is known as the father of plastic surgery skin grafting dates back to 700	BC when Indian Physicians applied them.

The pedicle tube which was used was very horrific and probably very uncomfortable for the patients, especially as some of them went from the hand to the face and involved keeping the arm elevated for a fairly long period of time.

Gillies did some fantastic work and I'm sure he changed the lives of many. It's just a shame that people nowadays forget the true intentions of plastic surgery and how it is used for vanity and is only an option for those with the money. I feel sorry for those who probably do need it and cannot recieve it free of charge.
